5.10.11 | Ron Sonntag Public Relations, Inc. (RSPR) has received a 2011 Silver Trumpet Award from the Publicity Club of Chicago (PCC). The award was presented at a luncheon at the Palmer House Hilton last Friday, May 6, in Chicago.
The award for distinguished work in public relations was given for RSPR’s publicity project entitled "Three War Amputees Climb Kilimanjaro." The purpose of the campaign was to obtain worldwide publicity for three combat-wounded veterans in their attempt to climb to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. The vets are amputees from three different wars: one lost both legs in Iraq, one lost both legs in Afghanistan, and one lost one leg in Vietnam. A hope was that others with disabilities would be motivated by this effort to challenge themselves to do everyday things they might have thought unattainable.
A secondary purpose was to gain awareness for the sponsoring organization, Disabled Sports USA, a nonprofit that provides national leadership and opportunities for individuals with disabilities to develop independence, confidence, and fitness through participation in community sports, recreation and educational programs.
PCC awards annually recognize excellence in planning, creativity and execution in 22 categories from among hundreds of programs submitted from across the Midwest.
